TONE: GREEN
Greenery was Pantone's colour of the year in 2017, evoking the first days of spring with revive, restore and renew. Throughout the year, many shades of greenery popped up but I only noticed green velvet nearer the end of the year. This colour grew on me more and more as it sprung up across Instagram and Pinterest feeds. Green velvet is a dream and looks so comfortable, no wonder I chose this style for my project this year! There's a type of elegance about it, it creates a statement without being so loud. It can be paired with so many colours too, to either create a calm setting when paired with greys and whites but can be a powerful "wow" colour when toned with a bright bold colour like Millennial Pink or Orange.
Historically on the 1st May in the Western countries, many courts required members to 'wear the May'. This in practice meant wearing a leafy crown or an item coloured prominently made up of green. This was due to green being linked with spring and gardens.
